For the research project RADAR “Recognition And Detection of AlternaRia Mycotoxins in Apples” the Laimburg Research Centre, working group “Laboratory of Residues and Contaminants” in collaboration with the South Tyrolean company VOG Products and thanks to the support received from Fusion Grant program – promoted by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano in cooperation with NOI Techpark, Südtiroler Wirtschaftsring and Rete Economia Alto Adige – is looking for: researcher (f/m/d) – code RAD.24-RL-02.46

Job Description

The project aim is to study the relationship between the fruit quality of apples intended for food processing and the presence of Alternaria mycotoxins. The research is conducted in collaboration with a local company working in the field of fruit processing. In particular the candidate areas of responsibility are as follows:

  • Development of an analytical method based on LC-MS for the quantification of mycotoxins in food samples
  • Method validation according to ISO 17025
  • Managing samples collection in collaboration with the project partner and the subsequent analysis
  • Elaboration of the data obtained and their presentation (conference and/or scientific paper)

Requirements

  • completed university studies of at least four years attested by a diploma in chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, natural science or similar.
  • maximum age 40 years (born after 01/01/1984)
  • PhD title (study completed within April 30th, 2025)
  • knowledge of Italian or German (will be evaluated during the interview)
  • availability to start work before April 30th, 2025

Desired additional competences constituting evaluation criteria:

  • experience in the field of residues and contaminants analysis in food matrixes
  • research experience or relevant work experience
  • publication record with particular focus on analytical chemistry and food contaminants
  • general knowledge in analytical chemistry or food processing
  • good knowledge of spoken and written English – will be evaluated during the interview
  • good knowledge of the second language (Italian or German) – will be evaluated during the interview
  • good organizational and communication skills
  • candidates should be highly motivated, able to work independently and possess good team-working skills

Workplace: NOI Techpark in Bozen/Bolzano

Contract duration: full time, 12 months with possibility of extension

They are full-time positions at Laimburg Research Centre. The regular place of work will be the NOI Techpark in Bolzano/Bozen. Classification is based on the category “ employee“ according to the Agricultural collective agreement. The contract may be renewed if at that time the project will be renewed and/or funds will still be available, within the limits of the legal provisions at that time.

Personal suitability can be assessed on the basis of a structured questionnaire and the assessment can account for up to 30% of the total score. As part of the job interview, a written assessment of the competences specified in the job advertisement may also be carried out. A ranking list will be published after the selection procedure has been completed. The candidate’s name will be replaced by an identification code, which will be sent to the candidate as part of their application.
